The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) has granted reauthorisation to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) administered by the Clean Energy Council (CEC), enabling the Code to continue providing strong standards and consumer protections as Australia’s market for new energy technology continues to grow.

The ACCC’s decision allows the NETCC to continue providing a framework of standards and consumer protections across the new energy industry over the next five years, with Approved Sellers soon to be asked to transition to an updated version of the Code, with enhancements designed to improve its clarity and operation.

NETCC Council Chair, Clare Petre, welcomed the news, going on to say that the Code is playing an important role in building trust and accountability in the industry.

"Over the last year we’ve seen Australians adopt record numbers of home batteries and new energy technologies. The NETCC provides robust consumer protections by requiring Approved Sellers to meet rigorous standards for advertising, sales practices, installations, after-sales service and complaint handling,” Ms Petre said.

"The next five years will be an opportunity to build on the Code’s foundations and ensure it continues to provide clear guidance for businesses and consumers as the market evolves,” she said.

About the NETCC

Established in 2023, the The New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) is a set of standards designed to protect consumers when purchasing new energy tech, administered by the Clean Energy Council (CEC). To become a New Energy Tech Approved Seller, a provider must demonstrate it meets the requirements of the NETCC and is committed to ongoing compliance with its standards. To maintain the integrity of the program, Approved Sellers may be audited to ensure their practices adhere to the NETCC, and customer complaints of alleged non-compliance will be investigated.
